Florence lies in the heart of Tuscany .And what a city it is.The art ,the wine , the food are all truly fantastic . Dont miss the Ufuzzi museum (book on line is the only way to go ) Caravaggio, El Greco the great artist, and stone masters of the past are truely remarkable . You can go through many rooms and admire the icons , You can understand why Mansa Musa from Mali in the middle ages became the richest man in the world of all time , with all the gold he supplied to Europe , Bloomberg estimates that his wealth today would be $350Billion (makes Bill Gates look like a pauper ).
Florence is for the art lovers. Buy your ticket before going to PALAZZO PITTI, GALLERIA DELL ACCADEMIA, DUMO SANTA MARIA DEL FIORA .
Of course do not forget to take a picture of PONTE VECCHIO, this medieval stone bridge is bordered with jewelers, art dealers and souvenirs.
When in Florence, do what the Italian do best, have a good espresso with the best pastries at the bar standing. Do not have sit, as your wallet will suffer, I mean, it is expensive to sit in Florence. Our favourite coffee bar is CAFFE GILLI, the oldest coffee bar which opened in 1733.
When the aperitif time tick, PROCACCI, located in the shopping district has a great selection of wine by the glass and you can also enjoy a cheese plate and mini paninis with truffle.
If you want to spoil yourself with a great restaurant, go to Antinori restaurant, it offers small menu of fresh meals.
Do not miss FRESCOBALDI, ON PLAZA SIGNORIA and watch the world go by sipping a glass of wine while dining outside.
We were recommended to go to Camillo trattoria, but we found it too touristy. We preferred PERSEUS, which specialized in florentine steak.
Chianti wine in Tuscany are mostly compose of sangiove grape which bring a lovely fruity berry style wine , perfect to accompany italian dishes such as pasta and game meat, pigeons , quail, beef and lamb. Buon apetito.
