French 75 – The lost cocktail that packs a punch

The French 75 is a French cocktail that grew fame in the early 1900’s after the First World War. The 75 represents the 75mm canon used in World War 1 to defend France’s front line, and was heavily popularized in propaganda, and folk lore. This is where the cocktail was finally branded as the French 75.

No one knows when or who created this extremely stiff but smooth cocktail. Due to the uncertainty of its origins, the recipe has also developed many different formats and adds an element of mystery when enjoyed in bars around the world.

The base of the cocktail according to some of the industry’s best bar tenders is: Gin, Champagne, Lemon Juice & Sugar (syrup).

To make a French 75 you will need the following ingredients;

30 ml Old Young’s GinGin Gin

20 ml Lemon juice

10 ml Monin Sugar syrup

40 ml Howard Park Jete Sparkling wine / Monopole Champagne

1 x lemon twist, to garnish

Add the gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup to a Boston glass or cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into Champagne flute and top with sparkling wine or champagne. Buy these ingredients online 24/7 via the Liberty Liquors website or in our store, located at 42 Bay View Tce, Claremont, Perth WA 6010.

Garnish with a long, thin twist of lemon.

Cheers!
